Transesophageal echocardiography is an inpatient investigation to evaluate the heart function and structure by ultrasound imaging technique and provide highly detailed images. Doctor will slowly introduce the ultrasound probe into your mouth and esophagus. The imaging probe can produce ultrasound wave that can penetrate the esophagus and assess heart structure and function. It is mainly used to diagnose congenital heart disease, cardiac tumor, thrombus, infective endocarditis and aortic dissection.
