Tilt Table Test

 

Tilt Table Test is an inpatient investigation to diagnose vasovagal syncope. Vasovagal syncope occurs when the part of your nervous system that regulates heart rate and blood pressure malfunctions in response to a trigger causing you slow heart rate and blood pressure drop. 


During the test, patient needs to lie on tilt table bed in supine position and then tilt up to 70 degree for about half an hour to an hour. Electrocardiogram, oximetry and blood pressure will be closely monitored. Meanwhile, if patient don’t faint or has symptoms, a vasodilator drug may be used to prompt the reflex.
